Dialog

Part 1

Smith: Hello. You are looking to be taught, and I can teach. Listen carefully, for I will say this once.
Smith: Every damage type enables an effect. Fire ignites, toxic poisons, electricity shocks, spectral phases, and physical stuns. These effects are simple.
Smith: Ignite deals damage over time, and can spread to nearby enemies. If you are ignited, the same applies to your companions or… minions. Poison deals minor damage over time, and also blocks personal healing such as health injectors or demons' regeneration over time. Shock deals minor damage over time, and also blocks skill use. In your case, electricity-based skills can still be used while shocked. Phase reduces damage dealt and increases damage taken. Stun prevents any action from being taken, although you may still inject yourself with a stimulant to remove the effect.
Smith: However, dealing damage of any type alone does not apply these effects. Elemental strength needs to be present as well. So no amount of fire damage can ignite without ignite strength, and so forth.
Smith: Finally, elemental effects are never guaranteed, and they cannot be applied unless damage is dealt to flesh. The demons' hellish shielding magic prevents such effects, not unlike our own holy shielding enchantments. So shield penetration can solve this problem, if you cannot demolish their shields immediately.
Smith: Understood? Now, prepare yourself. Look through Richinson's wares, or loot weapon modifications with these properties. Anjuna may also help you craft such items.
Smith: When you are done, find Ygreff in Covent Garden Market and gift it a fiery death.

Smith: It is dead. Good. Should your journey lead you to Charing Cross Station, seek out the Librarian next. He too can forge you into a Survivor, despite your shortcomings. Finally, here. I have forged these mods to help you remember this lesson. Choose one, but pick carefully. I will not spare a second.

Smith: It lives. Melt it down to learn your lesson.
